As a New England florist, I am always so excited when I get an inquiry for a restaurant wedding in Cambridge, my home city! I love designing locally, often working with couples who are my fellow neighbors, and at venues that are also fantastic restaurants I love to go to on the weekends. For me, I’ve discovered that there are so many advantages when couples choose to have weddings at restaurants beyond just getting an amazing meal!

Three of the most common restaurant venues I design at (and love) are Gufo, in East Cambridge with a beautiful patio, PAGU, in my own neighborhood of Central Square, which also recently won a Bib Gourmand by Michelin, and Margeaux Supper Parlor in Porter Square, which has the most gorgeous interior design. Here’s a bit more of what you can expect from each restaurant:
Gufo
Gufo is a delicious Italian restaurant, bar, and fun community meeting place. They have a gorgeous space for you to use with modern, chic design, a spacious dining room, and an adorable outdoor patio with string lights overhead that is perfect for your wedding and reception or just your reception.
You can invite up to 150 guests, and for your meal, they have a variety of options that offer you a modern take on your favorite classic Italian dishes. One of the standout features of this venue is the exceptional service they provide - everyone on the team at Gufo truly cares about you, your guests, and making sure you have a magical celebration.
PAGU
PAGU is a charming, urban restaurant that specializes in tasty Japanese and Spanish small plates. Did you know that PAGU actually means "pug" in Japanese? They have space for up to 150 guests or 174 for a standing reception.
You can choose to do a full buyout of the restaurant, or you can also just host your reception here. Something that I love about this venue is all the different spaces that are available and are ready for you to bring your unique wedding vision to life.
In total, they have 5 different spaces available for you to use, which include: El Centro, the main dining area, an intimate private dining room, the mezzanine, and the patio. For a full breakdown of what each space includes, go here!
Something truly special about this restaurant is that the amazing owner/chef Tracy Chang will be fully involved in your celebration and will custom design your menu and experience from start to finish. Your guests will never stop raving about the food here! Pagu also has space/allows for hanging floral installations, which is my jam!
Margeaux Supper Parlor
Margeaux Supper Parlor is a sophisticated, versatile restaurant wedding venue that serves a fusion of New England and New Orleans cuisine. They have a charming space that can be transformed to align with your wedding style and can accommodate up to 150 guests.
A unique feature of this venue is that they’ll help design custom cocktails for you and your guests to enjoy. They have a spacious dining room that can be divided into three sections, a charming lounge perfect for your cocktail hour, and a smaller room called the Oasis room, along with a garden patio.
This is an incredible option, especially if you don’t want to worry about decorating your venue, as the interior design does so much of the work already for you.
What Are the Pros of Having a Restaurant Wedding?
I know my couples love booking restaurant weddings because they KNOW they will get great food, they generally can avoid needing to rent too many things / bringing in a lot of decor, and it is usually more cost-effective than a traditional wedding venue.
Not to mention that it's so fun to get married in the city where you will be close to cool hotels, shopping areas, and a whole city for your guests to explore without needing to rent a car.
Restaurants are also a great option if you’re planning on having a smaller wedding party, and if you or your guests have any dietary restrictions, you’ll already know the menu in advance and accommodate everyone accordingly.
What Are the Cons of Having a Restaurant Wedding?
I really do love restaurant weddings, but that doesn’t mean they are right for everyone. Here are a couple of cons to consider:
Spacing can be an issue
Depending on the restaurant you choose, spacing may be an issue. Make sure to consider in advance the flow of your day and if all of your guests will be able to view all the events of your day at the same time.
A/V capabilities
Don’t forget to ask your restaurant before your celebration about their A/V capabilities before your day. Also, share with your restaurant if you’ll be hiring a DJ or band and what the setup would look like for this.
